Workpackage 2: Case studies on food chain vulnerability to contamination

This Workpackage is fundamental to the development of a conceptual framework (WP1)  for chain vulnerability assessment and validation (WP4).
The WP will examine in detail the chains associated with drinking water, poultry meat, milk powder and farmed salmon, including:

- Analytical techniques currently in use for the identification of contaminants (AUP in charge)

- Electronic tracking and tracing systems in use (UCD in charge)

- Identification of potential vulnerabilities to contaminants (MRI in charge)

- Consumer issues including consumer confidence in traceability systems (WU in charge)

- and the Implications of international trade with respect to chain integrity (ITAL and AUP in charge)

CASE STUDIES on these 4 "high risk" products will be carried out, due to their recognised vulnerability to contamination representing the three key chain vulnerability categories:

1. Drinking WaterChain Category 1 - Rapid Contamination chain
2. Milk powderChain Category 2 - Batch Mixing Chain
3. Poultry meat

4. Farmed salmon
Chain Category 3 - Long Geographic Chain

In this Workpackage we have 4  task leaders for the products mentioned above:

- UCD for MILK POWDER

- ATS for DRINIKING WATER

- IFQC for FARMED SALMON and

- MRI for POULTRY MEAT

MRI and SINTEF will provide input from WPs 2 and 1

MRI also will be the leader of this workpackage
